Chlorine Dioxide Generators
The use of Chlorine dioxide for water treatment has increased significantly recently due to increased safety of dosing, a move away from environmentally damaging chlorine and a better understanding of the benefits of chlorine dioxide.
Chlorine dioxide has been hailed as the ideal biocide due to its' ability to quickly destroy a wide range of micro-organisms across a wide range of water conditions. Chlorine dioxide is a solubilised gas and must be generated on site as it is highly oxidising and cannot be compressed. As such the effective use of chlorine dioxide requires a safe generation method that ensures chlorine dioxide is generated and dosed into the water in a safe and controlled manner.

Chlorine Dioxide Uses
Chlorine dioxide, whilst an oxidising biocide like chlorine, performs in a different way and as such has many advantages over chlorine. Chlorine dioxide.
- Dissolves in water rather than reacting with it
- Eliminates bacteria, viruses, amoebae, yeasts, moulds and algae including Legionella
- Does not allow bacterial resistance to occur
- Is more effective and less hazardous than alternatives (e.g. peroxyacetic acid & chlorine)
- Is effective at very low concentrations
- Is non-toxic and biodegradable
- Is non-corrosive in water systems at working concentrations
- Is highly effective at removing biofilms that can promote corrosion and harbour and protect bacteria from conventional chemical treatment
- Does not form chlorinated by-products such as carcinogenic trihalomethanes as chlorine does
- Is effective over a wide range of pH, up to pH 11
- Is persistent and remains in the water system for a long time
- Breaks down Phenols
